Youth Emotional Resilience Classes

Reno Nevada Stake

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We are pleased to announce the second Youth Emotional Resilience Class for 2024. We will be following the curriculum of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ self-reliance manual, “Finding Strength in the Lord: Emotional Resilience.” We will be covering such topics as Faith in Jesus Christ, Healthy Thinking Patterns, Body & Emotions, Managing Stress & Anxiety, Building Healthy Relationships, as well as others. A copy of the manual will be provided to all participants. If you would like to preview the course, it is available online and in the Gospel Library app.

We invite you to offer this opportunity to the 7th and 8th grade youth in your lives. We encourage families to have prayerful conversations with these youth as to whether this class may be appropriate and beneficial for them at this time. These classes will be ongoing and will recommence in the fall. Youth will be welcome to start or revisit the course at any time. Please be aware that if youth need to miss a week due to illness or other commitments, that’s absolutely OK!  We are aware that life happens; however, due to the additive nature of the content, consistent attendance will allow for the greatest personal growth.

The next class will begin on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 6:30pm  (concluding no later than 8:30pm) and will continue weekly through June 13, 2024. This course will be held in the Young Women’s Classroom at the Stake Center, 1095 Golconda Drive. This course will be specifically for those currently attending 7th and 8th grades.

We respectfully ask that you adhere to these age parameters as we are prayerfully tailoring the class content to the developmental ages (social, mental, emotional, physical, and, most importantly, spiritual) of the youth group involved. We also ask that as parents who are dropping off or picking up your youth, you wait in the hallway. This allows us, as facilitators, to keep our focus solely on the youth for the entire time that we are privileged to be with them. We admit, we are easily distracted by other conversations!

We love the youth of the Reno Nevada Stake, and more importantly, we know our Heavenly Parents and our Savior love the youth of this Stake! We look forward to getting to know our young men and young women better!

With Gratitude,
